The Whip and Saddle

The Whip and Saddle

The Whip & Saddle (9). This simple early 19th century building on the corner of Castle Street has a bellcast piended roof. At the ground floor, the corner was chamfered to allow horse drawn vehicles easier passage. The building has been here since at least 1824 and may incorporate earlier fabric. Now walk up Castle Street, the shape of which has changed little since the 18th century. It was re-paved by Borders Regional Council in 1994. Just before the car park on the right is number 18, a white building.
