Recording the Weekly Tape Borders Talking Newspaper, Scottish Borders
Recording the Weekly Tape

Borders Talking Newspaper

Like all Talking Newspapers in the UK, the Borders Talking Newspaper offers a free cassette of local news. This is 90 minutes long and contains items from the Southern Reporter and the Berwickshire News.

Delivered out and returned free of charge by the Post Office, the tape is made by teams of volunteers and currently has a listenership of around 200 people in Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire and Berwickshire. We also try to put out at least four magazine tapes each year with items of special interest to Borderers.

We are always looking out for new volunteers - to edit around 60 items, to read, to act as recording technicians, to sort wallets and to duplicate our master tape. With the number of volunteers that we have (currently 75), one is called on every six weeks or so, so duties are not heavy!

We also need to track down new listeners - people who can no longer read newsprint or others who, on account of illness or disability, cannot hold a book or paper. This tape is meant for you - do get in touch with us.
