The Berwickshire High School was first opened in 1896, in the building at the west end of Newtown Street, in which Borders College now have their Duns Campus.
Having outgrown its site, a new building was erected on a green-field site to the west of the town which was spacious enough for there to be playing fields attached to the school. This building was opened in 1958.
The swimming pool and the games hall are on the same site, allowing community use.
The school is a six-year comprehensive which takes in pupils from Duns Primary School itself, and from the surrounding area.
